Lime Law · Fees

The price, up front.

Flat fees for the most common files we run, across real estate, corporate and commercial, and estate planning. Civil litigation is hourly with a written budget — not flat-fee work, but never run without a plan.

We publish flat fees for routine, well-defined work because it is fair on both sides. The summary below covers the most common matters in each practice area; click through for the full fee schedule, including the situations that are quoted on the file rather than flat-priced.

Civil litigation

Hourly with a written budget — never without a plan

Civil litigation does not lend itself to flat fees: scope shifts as the file moves through pleadings, discovery, mediation, and trial. We work hourly, but with a written budget for each phase, monthly billing against that budget, and an updated estimate when scope changes. For demand letters and short matters — a single demand letter, a Small Claims appearance, an RTB hearing, a one-day mediation — we offer fixed fees.

How we structure billing

Flat where it works, hourly with a written budget where it doesn't.

For routine, well-defined files — residential real estate, incorporations, wills and estate plan bundles, standard agreements — flat fees remove the worry of running the meter and align our incentives with yours. We do the work; you know the price.

For files where scope can shift — complex transactions, contested matters, litigation — we work hourly with a written budget for each phase. The budget gets updated when scope changes, and we bill monthly against it. You always know where things stand.

Government fees, third-party charges, and disbursements are paid in addition to our legal fee, and GST applies. None of these are hidden — we collect and remit them transparently as part of every file.
